Appliance News Fridges & Freezers Laundry

A side by side fridge, a top mount, and two new top loader washing machines will enter LG’s home appliance arsenal this week in Australia.

Side by side refrigerators are a popular style when it comes to fridges in Australian kitchens and LG has ensured that  alongside fashion there is function.

An irksome issue with water and ice dispensing fridges is the plumbing. The new LG GC-L247ENSL is non-plummed. This makes it easier to install and a better option for renters, says LG.

The 3-litre water tank can be filled up manually and the water canister can be replaced with any bottle that has a regular screw top. Meanwhile, to conserve freezer space, the ice maker has been built into the door. In total, the side by side refrigerator has a 659-litre capacity.

Additional features include Moist Balance Crisper where the crisper lid has a lattice structure for reducing moisture loss and BioShield, an anti-bacterial seal around the door seals to prevent the spread of bacteria and mould – the latter is also found on the new top mount fridge, the LG GR-W600GS with a 600-litre capacity.

Lighting has also been changed from back-lit to side and front-lit for both new models.

Fiona Irving, LG Australia’s marketing manager, said the fridges affirm LG’s comitment to leading household appliances.

“Our products continue to be at the forefront of technology innovation, style and now more than ever, convenience. We’ve taken a feature that consumers want and adapted it so that it suits their lifestyle, saving them money, time and effort in the process,” Irving said.

In the laundry

LG’s two new top loaders (WT-H8006 loads 8kg and WT-H9556 loads 9.5kg) use the company’s proprietary Inverter Direct Motor that integrates the major internal components and attatches them directly to the drum – LG thinks that the system is so top notch if offers a 2 year warranty on parts and labour and an 8 year warranty on direct drive motor parts.

The drum and the pulsator rotate in opposite directions so that clothes are less likely to get tangled up and the wash is more gentle on delicates.

Other features include a sensor that measures how much detergent is being used and so adjusts the wash cycle intensity automatically, a delay start and a tempered glass lid.

Both washers also offer 4.0 star WEL water ratings.

“LG is a leading brand in the laundry space as we focus on all aspects of a product – it’s not just about looking good, but providing consumers with superior performance and efficiency. These top load machines are great for first home buyers and come with easy to use and innovative features that make doing your laundry less of a chore to save you time and stress,” Irving said.

Having once had to sit on the washing machine to stop it from bouncing into oblivion, Keri is today delighted with the new (smoother running) technologies that make housework easier every day. A self-confessed lazy-bones, Keri seeks out quirky inventions that ease the human workload, such as the robotic vacuum cleaner (wow). And as soon as someone figures out a Jetsons-like self-cleaning house, she will happily lay her pen to rest and retire from appliance journalism. Until then, her pick is a fridge that will tell her smartphone when it's time to pick up more beer on the way home. Magic.
